About JFACT
The Jewish Federation Association of Connecticut, (JFACT), speaks with one voice for the nine Connecticut Jewish Federations, four Jewish community centers, eight Jewish Family Services, and three Jewish nursing homes in Connecticut. JFACT is the government and community relations arm of the Jewish Federation system in the state, and lobbies for legislation that is of interest to Connecticut's Jewish community of approximately 130,000.
JFACT also advocates for the interests of Connecticut's Jewish community, works in collaboration with a variety of interfaith and secular nonprofit agencies advocating social services to the needy in our state, and promotes statewide advocacy on behalf of Israel.
Your generous donations help us with the following programs:
Israel Advocacy:
- Coordinate Israel Advocacy and guest speakers at Connecticut college campuses & Hillels.
- Facilitated three-way agreement with Emek Israel College of Afula, University of Hartford and Central Connecticut State University.
- Bob Fishman, executive director, represented JFACT on UJC/JCPA College President Institute in Israel, accompanying President Jonathan Daube, of Manchester Community College, in July 2005 to Israel.
- Organized 1st Connecticut visit by Ambassador Arye Mekel, Israel's Consul General of New York, including a reception hosted by Governor M. Jodi Rell, a meeting with the Hartford Courant editorial board and a luncheon with the Jewish community.
- With ADL, organized a visit of former Israeli Diplomat, Zeidan Atashe, a Druze, to Southern Connecticut State University and Central Connecticut State University and a meeting with new CCSU President Jack Miller.
- Cosponsored Israeli Advocacy conference at Trinity, bringing together 60 Hillel students from Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Grants:
- Secured $500,000 in State Bond package for JFS of Greater Hartford Capital Campaign with assistance of Senator Jonathan Harris.
- Facilitated grants totaling $221,962 into the Federation system for 2006.
- Maintain NAA (Neighborhood Assistance Act) 2005-2006 for Federations and their agencies with grants totaling over $250,000.
Programs and Social Justice:
- Lobbying on behalf of the Jewish community.
- Statewide annual Holocaust commemoration (29th annual Holocaust Commemoration on Friday, April 28, 2006 at the State Capital).
- Statewide Holocaust teacher training programs.
- Case management of Katrina evacuees in Connecticut.
- With JCRC's around Connecticut increasing awareness & advocacy of Darfur Genocide.
- Partner with Connecticut Immigrant & Refugee Coalition (CIRC) for annual Immigrant Day Ceremony (Ninth annual Immigrant Day, Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at the State Capital).
- Successfully lobbied for legal immigrants who are not yet citizens, obtaining funding for Medicaid, food stamps and cash assistance.
